The Suba was very angry and wanted to kill Maharaj. The evil Brahmins went to him and told him that his father died because Swaminarayan did a yagna in his kingdom. A few days after, the father of the Suba of Amdavad passed away. He told them that it would NOT be a sin to kill them because they were evil.Īfter the Yagna was over, the evil Brahmins became angry and wanted to get even with Maharaj. He then his Kathi Darbars orders to shoot anyone who moves. He told them to sit where they were to eat. They would attempt to stand in the food lines and steal food pour the ghee into the river and try to take carts of food home. Hence they decided to put a stop to the yagna. Many evil Brahmins did not like the new type of yagna because they could not eat meat anymore. None of the smartest Pandits from India could refute his bases. He would explain to all that yagnas were meant for offering love and devotion to God and not for killing innocent animals. During the yagna, Maharaj would do katha. Flour was given to everyone in the town to be milled. People sat in lines to eat, which were a quarter mile each! To feed all of the people in the town Maharaj ordered 500 mounds of ghee and 100 cartloads of jaggery (gor). He wanted to feed all the 84 castes of Brahmins.ĭuring the eighteen day yagna thousands of people were fed. He sent Saints and Bhaktas to go to Kashi and invite pandits. Maharaj handed out invitations to Brahmins and religiously educated people from all over India. Maharaj decided to start the yagna eight days before Makar Sankranti (January 14 - Uttrayan) and end it ten days after this festival. Therefore, Maharaj decided to perform a yagna, without any animal offerings, in Jetalpur. Shreeji Maharaj had great opposition from the public (mostly Brahmins) when He tried to stop the killing of animals (Ahimsa) used in yagnas.
